How I learned to fly is about a kid named Jack who can’t win anything, although he is not competitive. He is also bullied by a kid named Matt, who is always competitive and trying to be better at anything he does, but when Jack finds a book he learns how to fly.
He try’s to impress his friend’s, and to be specific, a girl named Marissa, and when Matt comes to brag about his skates he finds jack flying, so he sneaks in his house and steals the book, then he learns how to fly.
He starts to brag that he can fly at school and suggests that he and Jack race in the schoolyard with every kid in school watching, Jack refuses to race, but does it anyway because he thinks he has more practice so he can win.
Jack loses and is furious with Matt and they both become famous. Jack’s parents wastes his ability by doing circus acts, while Matt becomes the most famous kid the world, and by being famous he gets, a TV show, money, and the title “most famous kid in the world”.
Jack becomes jealous and furious, but men in suits take him to a bunker and perform tests on him like telling him to fly in different ways.
When he comes home he is tired and he finds out that Matt has a TV show now, so Jack demands a rematch Matt accepts and when Jack tries to fly he can’t. Matt wins and goes on a worldwide tour, Jack admits he faked losing so he could be free from him and have a happy life.
